Annually the best ballet dancers of the world, the heads of the major world ballet companies and students of ballet schools come to St.Petersburg to participate in the DANCE OPEN Festival. For the last several years the Festival of dance has launched a unique programme which includes film presentations, research and practice conference, photo exhibition, etc. This festival of ballet forum has become interesting not only for the professionals but for the large audience, for people of different social status. M. Piotrovsky and Y. Temirkanov are in the Board of Trustees of the DANCE OPEN Festival. Their interest and long-term cooperation with Festival shows that pop-culture could not be the symbol of our city, but also one of the most important events devoted to dance in Russia and in the world.

One of the most influential British newspapers, The Independent, named this Russian festival of dance in the Top Ten best European festivals. The main Russian and international mass media cover the events of the Festival in their reports. St.Petersburg TV channel “100 TV” broadcast concerts of the X International Ballet Festival DANCE OPEN. The journalist’ beau monde – TV Channels “Culture”, “RUSSIA 24”, “REN-TV”, “TV-CENTER”, newspapers “Izvestiya”, “Kommersant”, “Arguments and facts”, “Komsomolskaya pravda”, “St.Petersburg Times”, “OpenSpace” – covered the news of the ballet beau monde.

Students from the best ballet schools and academies come to participate in master-classes for children and teenagers, it’s their chance to take part in high-class training in ballet and modern dance; galas dedicated to the anniversaries of of the best dancers of all times have been held during last several years. And the constant culmination of the Festival is The Gala of International Ballet Stars which is held in Oktyabrsky Concert Hall. The best world ballet stars are invited to participate in the main event of the Festival.

The closed Grand Award Ceremony of the International Ballet Award DANCE OPEN has become a status event. The Jury Chairperson for three last years is a legend of the world ballet – Natalia Makarova. There are the heads of the major ballet companies of the world in the Jury.
The Award is given to the prize-winners by the Russian sport and cinema stars. Alisa Freindlich, Nikolay Valuev, Alina Kabaeva, Tamara Moskvina, Alexander Domogarov, Mikhail Boyarsky, Eduard Khill’, Evgeny Dyatvol and others participated in the Award Ceremony in different years.
In 2012 some of them and many other media personalities will be present at the Ceremony. This time as well as last year the Award Ceremony promises to be one of the most elegant receptions of the year.
